Nowadays, it seems like there is an official month for just about anything you can imagine. Not one to be left out of anything, the Environmental Protection Agency has designated January as National Radon Action Month (NRAM).
What is radon?
Radon is a natural, tasteless, colorless, odorless radioactive gas. It is sometimes found in homes, and the EPA has determined that it can be harmful in large enough quantities over a prolonged exposure.
If you’ve bought a home in the last few years, chances are you might have been asked if you would like to have a radon test as part of the home inspection.
If you already own a home, and would like to know if you are at risk for Radon exposure, you can always buy a radon test kit.
What happens during National Radon Action Month?
National Radon Action Month is all about raising awareness of the potential dangers of radon exposure. The EPA has a great website that will help you learn more about radon and what you can do about it.
If you would like to learn more about radon and its potential effects, we encourage you to visit the EPA’s radon website.
