Charlottesville 365: Go to a Drive-In Theater

Enjoy a Double-Feature at the Fork Union Drive-In Theater

Enjoy a Double-Feature at the Fork Union Drive-In Theater

Spring is beginning to feel a bit more like Summer right now, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. As the days get longer and the mercury rises, it’s time to take a ride and catch a double feature at one of TWO drive-in movie theaters in the Charlottesville Area.

Fork Union Drive-In Theater

About 45 minutes from Charlottesville, just outside the town of Fork Union in Fluvanna County, is the Fork Union Drive-In Theater (map link). We’ve spent quite a bit of time at the Fork Union Drive-In, and it is always a unique and enjoyable experience. The double-feature starts just after sun-down, and there is always a good mix of movies. The season hasn’t started just yet, but once it days, there are double-features every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through Labor Day. For more information on the Fork Union Drive-In, you can give them a call at (434) 842-3624, or join the Fork Union Drive-In Page on Facebook.

Goochland Drive-In Theater

Just a little bit further away, in Goochland County, is a very new drive-in theater (map link). The Goochland Drive-In Theater opened last year, and their 2010 season has already begun. Just like Fork Union, the Goochland Drive-In offers a double-feature every weekend during the Spring and Summer. For more information, visit the Goochland Drive-In Theater’s website, and you can also find them on Facebook.

So, why not enjoy a beautiful Spring or Summer weekend evening by taking a drive into the country and back in time, where you can enjoy modern films in a classic drive-in setting? We can guarantee that when you tell your friends and family from outside the area that you went to a drive-in theater, they’ll be jealous.

Just another unique feature that makes the Charlottesville area such a special place to live.

Charlottesville 365: Go for a ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway

Breathtaking views abound on the Blue Ridge Parkway

Breathtaking views abound on the Blue Ridge Parkway

If there is one thing that catches the eye of everyone who lives in or visits the Charlottesville area, it would have to be the natural beauty that abounds here. No where is that more on display than on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The Blue Ridge Parkway is 469 miles and connects the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina as it winds its way through the beautiful mountainsides. The parkway is filled with great attractions, hikes, breathtaking overlooks, picnic areas, and much more.

From Charlottesville, you can be on the Blue Ridge Parkway in about 30 minutes. If you have never been on the parkway before, whether you go North or South, making a day trip out of exploring the Blue Ridge Parkway is an absolute must-do when it comes to things to do in the Charlottesville area. Be careful, though– it’s virtually impossible to visit only once.

For complete information about the Blue Ridge Parkway and all that it has to offer, visit the Blue Ridge Parkway website.

Charlottesville 365: Spend time at the Charlottesville Dogwood Festival

The rides are ready in McIntire Park for the 2010 Charlottesville Dogwood Festival

The rides are ready in McIntire Park for the 2010 Charlottesville Dogwood Festival

Another of the annual rites of Spring is here in the Charlottesville area.  The Charlottesville Dogwood Festival began on Monday, and runs through April 25th. For those two weeks, there are tons of great events you can enjoy.  Among them are the Carnival in McIntire Park,  a Pro-Am Golf Tournament, and of course, the Dogwood Festival Parade.

We went to the carnival last year, and had a great time playing games, riding rides, and stuffing ourselves with funnel cake and cotton candy.  There is a little something for everyone at the Dogwood Festival carnival.

The Dogwood Festival is one of the most popular community events in the Charlottesville area every year.  It is something not to be missed, so make plans to head out to McIntire Park and take par in the fun!

For more information, including a calendar of all the fabulous events, visit the Charlottesville Dogwood Festival website.
