Charlottesville 365: Watch UVa Women’s Rowing Team Compete at Lake Monticello
March 29th, 2010 categories: Charlottesville 365, Communities, Events, Lake Monticello, UVA, Why Charlottesville?
One of the great things about living in the Charlottesville area is having the University of Virginia in town. Because Charlottesville is the home of UVa, there are always interesting events going on in the area. Sure, everyone knows about the basketball teams and the football team, but not a lot of folks take the time to enjoy one of the more interesting competitions that UVa puts on in the area. . .
Every year, the UVa Women’s Rowing Team has a meet at Lake Monticello. Teams come from around the country and compete in different rowing events right here on the waters of Lake Monticello. If you’ve never been to a college rowing competition before, why not come out to Lake Monticello, enjoy the fresh air, and watch some of the best rowers in the country compete?
It certainly is a popular event in the community, as many of Lake Monticello’s waterfront homeowners sit out on their dock to watch the teams compete, and local residents offer use of their boats for the competitions judges.
This year, the meet is on Saturday, April 3rd. It is an all day event. You would be wise to get there earlier, since people tend to set up their chairs early on the main dam, so that they can see the finish line.
So, if you’re looking for something to do in the Charlottesville area this weekend, head over to Lake Monticello and cheer on the Lady ‘Hoos as they row their way to victory!
