Nowadays, it seems like there is an official month for just about anything you can imagine. Not one to be left out of anything, the Environmental Protection Agency has designated January as National Radon Action Month (NRAM).
What is radon?
Radon is a natural, tasteless, colorless, odorless radioactive gas. It is sometimes found in homes, and the EPA has determined that it can be harmful in large enough quantities over a prolonged exposure.
If you’ve bought a home in the last few years, chances are you might have been asked if you would like to have a radon test as part of the home inspection.
If you already own a home, and would like to know if you are at risk for Radon exposure, you can always buy a radon test kit.
What happens during National Radon Action Month?
National Radon Action Month is all about raising awareness of the potential dangers of radon exposure. The EPA has a great website that will help you learn more about radon and what you can do about it.
If you would like to learn more about radon and its potential effects, we encourage you to visit the EPA’s radon website.
If you would like to learn more about testing for radon in your own home, feel free to contact us. We know professionals who can not only conduct accurate radon tests for you, but who can also install systems to mitigate radon exposure in your home.

One of the reasons that people choose to live in the Charlottesville area is because of the amazing diversity of live entertainment that is available. This is especially apparent during the holiday season.
One staple of live entertainment during the holiday season in the Charlottesville area is the Virginia Glee Club. For 68 previous years, the Glee Club has entertained residents and visitors with the best songs of the season. We have been to the shows before, and it is one of the things that we most look forward to seeing during the holiday season.
This year, the Glee Club will be performing two shows– December 4th at Old Cabell Hall, and December 12th at the Paramount Theatre. You can find more information, and order tickets, here.
If you’ve been looking for some quality holiday entertainment that the entire family can enjoy, you won’t be disappointed in the Glee Club holiday concerts. They are fabulous.

Many things have changed in the 200-plus years since Thomas Jefferson began construction on his home at Monticello. One thing that has not changed is the celebration of Christmas.
Monticello has been honoring that celebration in much the same way that Thomas and Martha would have 200 years ago. The best part is, you can take place in the celebration, too.
Visiting Monticello, the crown jewel of the Charlottesville area, is a must-do for anyone who lives or visits the area. Many people visit in the Spring and Summer, but forget that Monticello receives special attention for the holidays.
On 9 different dates throughout December, you can experience Christmas at Monticello by taking a holiday tour. The tours are $45 per person. The holiday tours are different from the regular house tours, so if you think you’ve seen Monticello before, you’ve never seen it quite like this. For more information about the tours, and to buy tickets, visit the Monticello website.
There are plenty of things to do around the Charlottesville area during the holidays, but why not take a step back in time and enjoy the holiday ambiance in the area’s most historic home?

One of the reasons that people choose to move to Fluvanna County and Lake Monticello is because of the strong sense of community that exists. That sense of community is enhanced throughout the year with events like the Village Holiday Celebration in Palmyra.
The Village Holiday Celebration has been taking place in Palmyra for a few years now. It is quickly becoming one of the most popular events that takes place in Fluvanna County each year.
The celebration is hosted by the Fluvanna County Historical Society, in partnership with the Fluvanna Garden Club and Fluvanna County Government.
This year’s holiday celebration will take place in Court Square, Palmyra, on December 12th at 3:00pm.
The holiday celebration will feature Clydesdale carriage rides around Palmyra, walking tours of the village, live music, caroling, and a special “Holiday Lights” program. It sounds like an event that will be filled with fun, and we hope we’ll see you there!
